Guimaraesleft St James Park in a protective boot arousing fears among supporters. However, the midfielders scan results show he will miss weeks rather than months in a huge boost toEddie Howe.

The race is now on to see if Guimaraes will be fit enough for the Carabao Cup semi-finals on January 24 and January 31. The former Lyon star is set to miss the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend asNewcastlelook to continue their fine league form.

Speculation is rife Adidas may soon be manufacturing Newcastle United kits once again after a 13-year absence. Some of the Magpies most revered strips of recent times were made by the sportswear giants, most notably the Brown Ale-sponsored classics from the Entertainers era.

Current manufacturers Castore signed a multi-year deal withNewcastleback in 2021 but have been criticised by supporters over delayed deliveries and customer service. Publicly the club insist they will continue to work with the brand while seeking improvements in future.

However,the club plan to review all current partnerships over timeand two recent boardroom appointments have connections with Adidas through previous roles. New Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone and CEO Darren Eales have both worked with the company in the past atArsenaland Atalanta respectively.

Antonio Conte has claimed that Arsenal and Man City are the only two teams who can fight for the title this season - even if Newcastle United are flying in third place.

Although league leadersArsenalare nine points clear ofNewcastlein the table, the Magpies are only a point behind championsCityin second at the halfway point of the campaign after playing a game more than their rivals. In contrast, at this stage of last season, Newcastle were second from bottom in thePremier League.

While such a turnaround may have been unthinkable a year ago, when Newcastle were fighting to stay in the top-flight, Howe said just last month that we can do anything. Rather than play down talk of Newcastle mounting a title challenge, Howe has encouraged supporters to believe they can do anything.
